Company History

3sun Group was established in 2007 by CEO Graham Hacon and has grown into a successful group of six divisions now employing over 300 people.

Initially, it was set up to provide control and instrumentation services particularly to the oil, gas and marine industries. In 2010, the company saw rapid growth following the acquisition of Dawson Energy, an industry leader in delivering installation and maintenance services for on and offshore wind turbines.

In successive years from 2010, 3sun Inspection Services was launched, providing equipment testing and inspection to the renewables and oil and gas industry; 3sun Academy was introduced following the acquisition of Eastern Training Services, offering technical and vocational training; and RRC Controls Services based in Aberdeen was acquired, taking the group into the global subsea sector. The Group's most recent acquisition, AID Industrial, is a specialist in rope access and equipment training which further supports 3sun Academy's training offering.

Such rapid expansion also led to the Group relocating its Great Yarmouth headquarters to new larger premises and further offices in Aberdeenshire, Denmark and Norway.

Growth over those years saw turnover increase from £5.8 million in 2010 to £22 million in 2014.  The company looks set to exceed £30 million turnover in 2015, aided by the group receiving £10m investment from London-based Business Growth Fund (BGF) following six years of consistent growth.
